The Great Lakes Resorters were one of two new teams created by the Traverse City Pit Spitters in 2020 in an effort to safely play baseball during the COVID-19 pandemic. The closed-loop competition featured the three teams (the Pit Spitters, Resorters and the Northern Michigan Dune Bears) playing against each other, and only each other, at Traverse City’s Turtle Creek Stadium in the summer of 2020 as part of the Northern Michigan Pod of the Northwoods League. The Dune Bears lasted all of two games before the makeshift season was put on hold due to a COVID outbreak amongst the two new teams. When play resumed two weeks later, it did so without the Dune Bears, with the remaining players spread between just the Pit Spitters and the Resorters due to pandemic logistics. The Pit Spitters went on to beat the Resorters in 34 out of 41 games to win the Northern Michigan Pod.
